Về Từ điển Nhà Sàn bỏ túi

Trong Từ điển Nhà Sàn bỏ túi (A pocket dictionary of Nha San), nghệ sĩ trẻ Phan Thảo Nguyên thu thập các mẫu vật cơ cấu của quá trình sáng tạo từ các nghệ sĩ có mối liên hệ với Nhà Sàn suốt 15 năm qua để xây dựng một hệ thống thông tin song song trong phiên bản sắp đặt không gian tại triển lãm 15+ và phiên bản mềm trên mạng internet (tudiennhasan.com). Dự án được giới thiệu ở định dạng tạm thời như một từ điển tên riêng của các nghệ sĩ với 49 đơn vị tra cứu tương ứng với 49 thông tin thị giác bao gồm các phác thảo, cấu thành hay những tác phẩm hoàn chỉnh. Thảo Nguyên thay đổi tính tham chiếu chính thống và tính trung lập của quá trình mô phạm làm từ điển thông thường bằng cách trao quyền tự chủ thông tin cho chính chủ thể đơn vị tra cứu, nhường không gian cho các tiểu tự sự. Từ điển Nhà Sàn bỏ túi vừa khẳng định về sự hiện diện của một cộng đồng nghệ thuật vừa thiết lập một mạng lưới di dộng, cởi mở, tự do và dân chủ dưới dạng thức du kích trôi nổi trong không gian ảo thoát khỏi mọi kiểm duyệt, nơi căn tính nghệ sĩ được định vị bằng tác phẩm, nơi nghệ thuật được diễn trình từ phía người thực hành.

A Pocket Dictionary of Nha San

Working with artists who have been in association with Nha San in the past 15 years, Thao Nguyen collects constitutional objects from their creative processes to construct a dual information system, comprising of an installation piece at the 15+ Exhibition and an online catalogue at tudiennhasan.com. In its provisional form, the project is introduced as a dictionary indexed by artist name with more than 50 reference units, the equivalence of 50 visual data files including sketches, components and complete works. Thao Nguyen has changed the orthodox and the neutral quality of the conventional process by which dictionaries are compiled by handing the rights to information control over to the very subjects of the reference units, leaving space for small narratives. A pocket dictionary of Nha San presents a statement about the presence of an art community and, at the same time, establishes a network that is mobile, open, free and democratic; a guerilla system in a virtual space that drifts beyond censorship; where an artist’s identity is appraised through his work and art is represented by the practitioner.

About Nhà Sàn Studio 

The birth of Nhà Sàn Studio: How a private home became the one of a kind art space for experimental art in Vietnam in 1998

In 1998, artist Nguyen Manh Duc and artist/curator Tran Luong founded Nhà Sàn Studio, the first experimental art space in Hanoi at Nguyen’s private home: a Muong ethnic minority house on stilts, transported from the mountains of Hoa Binh province to the capital. Here, the first generation of Vietnamese avant-garde artists, including Nguyen Minh Thanh, Truong Tan, Nguyen Quanh Huy, Pham Ngoc Duong, Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Minh Phuoc, Le Vu, Kim Ngoc, Son X, Ea Sola etc., was nurtured and given the chance to create their non-traditional experimentation; making Nhà Sàn Studio the first, longest-running and most important artist-led, non-profit experimental art spaces in the country.

Since then it has also become a valuable resource for a younger generation of artists, including Nguyen Trinh Thi, Nguyen Phuong Linh, Nguyen Tran Nam, Nguyen Huy An, the Appendix, Tuan Mami, etc. Taking the shape of a private home, in the last fifteen years, Nhà Sàn Studio proved to be a near-perfect place to host underground alternative art exhibitions and events in the local scene.
